It was a wicked turn of events that went down after festival promoter Homer Hill made a promise Friday: "This is a rain-or-shine event, and we're going to do it."

When snow hits Central Texas in April, meteorologists pull out the superlatives.
A rare cold front brought snow, sleet and freezing rain to the Austin area Saturday, canceling events, postponing the Urban Music Festival and contributing to the death of one motorist.
"I've never seen anything like this happen," said Bob Rose, a meteorologist with the Lower Colorado River Authority.

AUSTIN360.COM ALMOST URBAN BLOG - In a way, its kind of hard for me to write objectively about the Urban Music Festival because Im in love with the idea of it. I want to believe with all my heart that there is room in a country-rock town like Austin for a large-scale music event devoted to hip-hop, soul and r&b. Last years Urban Music Fest (which was a single-day event) seemed scarcely attended during the daylight hours, but as the sun went down, the crowd poured in to catch the evenings headliner Chaka Khan. This year, the fest was extended to two days with Fridays lineup focused on neo-soul and Saturdays featuring old school funk.

But when asked if it's been easier organizing the Urban Music Festival this second time around, he busts out a big, burly laugh. "Aw, man," says Hill, whose promotion partners are former University of Texas quarterback Donnie Little and marketing executive Donell Creech. "When we added a second day (Friday, headlined by neo-soul queen Angie Stone), it was like we were starting over."
Last year was great, but as future Urban Music Festival headliner (2019?) Janet Jackson sang, "What Have You Done For Me Lately?"
