| VOLUNTEERS : VENDORS : HELP SPREAD THE WORD
UMF will need a small army of dedicated, enthusiastic volunteers! Work to be done has been divided into the following committees:
Responsible for bringing the noise and generating the buzz for Urban Music Fest weekend. Additionally, generating and distributing all marketing materials including website, posters, postcards, print, tv, web and radio ads; generating press releases and media coverage; arranging artist interviews; handling all media inquiries, etc.
If you dream big – and execute even bigger – this is the committee for you!
Responsible for all issues related to staging the show; handling all sound, stage and lighting requirements; fulfilling technical rider requirements; booking acts, scheduling artist line up, etc.
If it’s physiologically impossible for you to eat your dessert before your main course – because that’s just not “logical” - your attention to detail and appreciation for structure will serve you well on the production team.
Responsible for serving “concierge-style” role for all artists, sponsors, VIP patrons and volunteers; will serve as first point of contact to provide information, resources and ensure that constituents previously mentioned are well taken care of prior to and during their time at UMF including arranging for food, transportation and scheduling as needed.
If pleasing others is a heartfelt pleasure for you – you’ll do very well on this committee.
Responsible for all aspects of vendor management including managing the application process, vendor selection, assigning booth space and vendor oversight and ensuring compliance with all vendor rules.
If you fit the profile of the production committee (see above) but don’t necessarily have an interest in the behind-the-scenes technical aspect of the music business – but you still like to ensure that the trains run ON TIME – welcome to the vending committee!
VOLUNTEER
If you would like to volunteer to be on the volunteer committee – your job will be to assist all of the other volunteers in doing their job easier. You will assign volunteers to committees as needed; liaison with all committees to ensure they have adequate volunteers; handle volunteer check-in and oversee volunteer hospitality tent on the grounds.
If you’ve been described as someone who has never met a stranger – your help is definitely needed on this committee!

The minimum age to volunteer for this event is 18. Volunteers must be residents of Austin or the surrounding community. While experience in a particular area is not required to serve as a UMF volunteer – for every year under five years that you don’t have in hands-on experience – you must have a 10-to-one ratio of high energy and the right attitude!
While most volunteer positions will be day-of and on the grounds - there will be a limited number of production and pre-festival positions available.
A core team of team captains will be needed almost immediately to help finalize preparations for UMF. The majority of volunteers will be needed on the day-of at Auditorium Shores. A typical shift will be approximately 4 hours starting at 7am.
Beyond the satisfaction of being part of this inaugural amazing community event, receiving the sincere gratitude of UMF organizers and spending time with a bunch of fun people, volunteering gets you into the UMF grounds all day! And not to be forgotten – the “official” UMF volunteer t-shirt!
Your information will be added to the volunteer database. Someone in the volunteer program will contact qualified candidates in order to discuss opportunities. You will subsequently receive email reminders regarding assignments including logistical details, roles, responsibilities and any other pertinent information. So make sure you have a valid email address that you check often as this will be preferred method of communication.
Please note that by submitting your information, you are NOT assured a role in the festival. We expect to have more volunteers apply than we are able to place. Acceptance is by invitation only after we have reviewed your application. Only those chosen to participate will be contacted.
At Auditorium Shores, there will be captains assigned to each team who will be able to provide direction and answer all of your questions throughout your shift.
